PDToolKit eTOD DataStore - Database
This is the heart of where the data is stored; a true geospatial database from Microsoft
is used allowing the coordinates to be stored as geographical points allowing for
true spatial queries.
The attributes applied to Obstacles and Terrain data are stored in the eTOD schema
developed by ASD and a variety of ways to review the textual data is offered.
Data can be displayed from inside the PDToolKit eTOD CAD tool and from the standalone
Windows application.
In the future, a web based environment is planned to allow this data to be viewed
over the web using a secure environment based on Login/Password.

Overview
Your Data, Any Place, Any Time
SQL Server 2008 delivers on Microsoft’s Data Platform vision by helping your
organization manage any aviation data. Store data from structured, semi-structured,
and unstructured documents, such as images and rich media, directly within the database.
SQL Server 2008 delivers a rich set of integrated services that enable you to do
more with your data such as query, search, synchronize, report, and analyze.

Access data from across your enterprise and provide control over your data no matter
where it’s stored - from the largest servers within the data center to desktops
to mobile devices. SQL Server 2008 provides a comprehensive platform that delivers
intelligence where your users want it. Information workers can access data directly
using the tools they use every day, such as the 2007 Microsoft Office system or
CAD software (AutoCAD / MicroStation).
Delivering Location Intelligence Within Your Applications
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 delivers comprehensive spatial support that enables organizations
to seamlessly consume, use, and extend location-based data through spatial-enabled
applications, ultimately helping end users make better decisions.
- Comprehensive spatial support - Build spatial capabilities into
your applications by using the support for spatial data in SQL Server 2008
- High-performance spatial data capabilities - Achieve high-performance
spatial capabilities with SQL Server 2008
- Geospatial application extensibility - Extend spatial support by
integrating spatial data in SQL Server 2008 with location-enabled applications and
services
Top New Features
- Use the new GEOGRAPHY data type to store geodetic obstacle spatial data
- Take advantage of new spatial indexes for high-performance queries, needed to search
for obstacles around a ARP or within a polygon boundary
Client - Server Architecture
The database can be installed locally on a single computer or on a specific server
configured specially for the database. This is a true scalable architecture that
will fit into the data requirement of the State. Some countries are small and do
not require a large system whereas a larger state with lots of airports/aerodrome
assets will need greater storage and processing power for the eTOD queries.
Note:
PDToolKit eTOD DataStore does not include the CAD software; one of the following
CAD applications is required: AutoCAD MAP 3D 2008, AutoCAD MAP 3D 2009, Bentley
MicroStation MAP, for other CAD software please contact ASD.
